| Synod of Bishops 2008
on Sacred Scripture. Pope Benedict XVI has
convoked the next synod of Bishops for 2008 on the theme, "The
Word of God in the Life and Mission of the Church". It
will be the second synod presided over by Pope Benedict XVI.
The synod of Bishops is a permanent institution established
by Pope Paul VI by Motu Propio "Apostolica Sollicitudo"
of 15th September 1965 as a way to maintain the level of
collegiality among bishops reached at the Second Vatican
Council. The preparatory document of the Synod has already
been sent to all the bishops seeking responses from all over
the world. This document is called Lineamenta. Copies
of this document will be made available for study in the
