Location 

Philobari is situated 100 km East of Dibrugarh, in the civil district of Tinsukia, Assam. Philobari is the name of a Tea Estate. It was part of Doom Dooma parish till 1981.           

History of the parish     

Philobari parish was carved out of St. Joseph’s Church, Doom Dooma in the year 1981. In December 1981 Bishop Thomas Menamparampil S.D.B. appointed Fr. Jose Muloparampil as the first Parish Priest of St. Patrick’s Church, Philobari. St. Patrick’s School was started in 1984 with boarding facilities. In the same year Sisters of Mary Immaculate joined the work by starting a boarding for girls and a dispensary. The sisters tour the villages regularly.  There were over 10,000 Catholics in Philobari Parish, spread over in 32 substations.  In 1993, when Rajanagar centre was started, some villages and tea gardens were entrusted to them. The parish was still divided when Pengree was started in 2002. At present Philobari has 6600 Catholics spread over in 22 substations
