Location: The parish is located behind Pengree Tea Estate, No. 10 Line, which is commonly known as Ranchi Line. It is 3 km away from the Pengree Chariali. Pengree is in the civil district of Tinsukia. The nearest town is Digboi. Doom Dooma and Tinsukia are the other towns. At Pengree T.E. there is a small chapel, which we use for the Church service. Pengree is bifurcated from the Philobari parish.
Brief History of the parish.
On 18th February 2003, Rt. Rev. Joseph Aind, Bishop of Dibrugarh, in the presence of the faithful and village leaders, officially declared Pengree, a Jesuit Centre, and asked them to look after primarily the spiritual needs of the faithful, not neglecting their material, intellectual and socio-economic developmental aspects. Rev. Fr. Gregory Coelho SJ, the Regional superior of Kohima Region too was present on the occasion. The Bishop appointed Fr. Xavier Lakra SJ, Priest in Charge of the center and Fr. Dominic Topno SJ, his assistant.
Pengree has about 4500 Catholics spread over in 8 sub-stations.
Pengree is completely a new center. Therefore we do not have the parish Church. We use the school premises for church services. Our residence is also a kuccha building made of bamboos and tin sheets.
