History
In 1996 Fr. G.P. Amalraj was appointed to start St. Peter’s School at Mezenga. By then the diocese had already purchased a plot of land and a residence built. Pioneering works in Mezenga was tough one. The plot of land that we owned was a thick jungle where people feared to enter even during the day time due to the fear of poisonous snakes and wild animals. Along with that a sort of thorny bamboos filled the land. They say the Ahom Kings brought these bamboos from Thailand for their protection from the enemies. Planted along the boundaries, they served as the bulletproof surface. The Catholic Communities of Behubor TE and Lakmijan TE rendered great service in clearing the jungle.
St. Peter’s School was formally inaugurated on 18th March 1996 with just 8 tiny tots. Classes were conducted in a temporary bamboo shed with tin roof. On 19th February 1999 foundation for the new school building was laid in the presence of parents, teachers, students and well-wishers. The ground floor of the building was completed and inaugurated on 21st February 2000. Computer classes were introduced in the School from February 2002. In November 2002 Fr. Amalraj was transferred and Fr. Andreas Induar became the 2nd Principal of St. Peter’s School.
