:St. Paul’s parish, Jengraimukh, Majuli island
The parish is situated in the river island of Brahmaputra, in the district of Jorhat. The parish was established by Fr.Jose Varghese in the year 1987.
History of the parish. With the intention of working among the Mising tribals, the parish was opened in 1987. Fr. Jose Varghese spotted the present land at Jengraimukh and started the work in a humble way. In the following year an English medium school was started. Together with the education work, Fr. Jose initiated various developmental works as well in order to uplift them. Constant floods increase the misery of the people every year. In 1989 the Missionary Sisters of Mary Help of Christians opened a convent there to assist in all the works.
At present there are about 865 Mising Catholics spread over in 15 substations. They are:
