History
Khobong is situated 14 km away from Doom Dooma town, in
the civil district of Tinsukia. Khobong is known as
“Kalatukura” in the locality. The nearest town is Talap,
situated 4 km away from Kalatukura. Khobong parish was
opened on 3rd July 2007, bifurcating Doom Dooma
parish, with Fr. Jerome Minj sdb as its first Parish
Priest. The announcement of opening the parish was made by
Rt. Rev. Joseph Aind, Bishop of Dibrugarh, in Doom Dooma
parish. At the time of opening the new parish, it has a
Catholic population of 2462 spread over in 14
sub-stations. Most of these Catholics are working in the
nearby Tea Estates. Fr. Jerome Minj supervised the
construction of the new presbytery in Khobong and started
residing there from 30th March 2008 along with
Fr. Paulinus sdb. The official blessing of the newly
constructed presbytery was done on 4th April
2008 by Fr. Nestor Guria sdb, the Salesian
Vice-Provincial. Mr. Mathias Toppo helps in the parish as
the touring Catechist.
