ST. THERESA OF CHILD JESUS
DIGBOI - 1946

Location

Digboi is situated 87 kilometers south east of Dibrugarh, in the civil district of Tinsukia, Assam. Digboi has the country's oldest functioning Oil Refinery.

History of the parish

The Catholic Community of Digboi, consisting mainly of the employees of the Assam Oil Company, was ministered to from Dibrugarh until it got a resident priest in 1946 in the person of Fr. F. Fossati sdb. A small chapel was blessed by Bishop Stephen Ferrando in February 1947. In 1958 a small school that was run by a certain Mrs. Bell was given to the parish. In 1966 Sisters of the Apostolic Carmel came to look after the School. Later they shifted the School to its present site. For a long time the parish was mainly catering to the town people, mainly foreigners, working in the Oil Refinery of Digboi.

At present the parish has 1725 Catholics spread over in 8 substations.
