| The congregation of "Sisters of Our Lady of Fatima" has
opened its first presence in Jagun on August 5, 2007.During
the Holy Mass presided over by me, I have welcomed the first
batch of Fatima Sisters into the Diocese of Dibrugarh. I
express my gratitude to Rev.Sr. Santan Nago, the Superior
General and Rev.Sr. Presentation Pereira, the Regional
Superior for taking this missionary venture for the
good of the needy people of Jagun. I thank Fr. Paul
Thettayil and Fr.Augustine Toppo for making the necessary
arrangements to accommodate the three new sisters: Sr.
Domitilla Rodrigues (Local Superior), Sr. Joanita Fernandes,
Sr. Premlita Daimary. I wish them a happy stay and
fruitfulness in their apostolate. This is the 12th Women
Religious congregation in the Diocese.
A bit of history now. Monsignor Francis Xaviier Kroot was
born in Holland. He belonged to the Mill Hill Fathers. He
founded the "Missionary Sisters of St. Francis Xavier" in
Bellary, Karnataka. In 1951 the name of the Congregation was
changed into "Sisters of Our Lady of Fatima".
Now approximately there are 500 sisters in the
congregation which has two provinces: Mumbai and Bangalore.
North East is a region under Generalate at Pune. And the
Regional House is at Rangia, Assam. The charism of the
congregation is to uplift the weaker section of the society,
especially girls and women. At present North Eastern Region
has 14 religious communities spread out in 7 Dioceses. (
